Katharine Vernelli
Holistic Nutrition Practitioner; NNCP
Kat is a Holistic Nutrition Practitioner who has been helping women get their bodies back on their side for the last ten years. .
Somewhere along the way, "normal" started to mean tired all the time, bloated after meals, wired at night, stuck on the toilet or running to it, and hormones that feel like they're working against you instead of for you. Kat doesn't think that's normal. She thinks it's the body asking for something it isn't getting, and her job is to help women figure out what that is.
She wasn’t always a health guru, having battled an eating disorder for several years in her teens and early twenties. It wasn’t until she began her journey to healing that she realized just how important real, whole foods are and the vital role they play in creating her well-being physically, mentally, and spiritually. She spent a long time focusing on healing her body from the inside out. She changed her diet by adding, not deleting. Kat changed her thoughts, which turned into positive actions, and learned how to treat her body as a whole using the nutrients from whole foods to restore and maintain balance
Kat's path to working with postpartum and hormones started somewhere she never expected. She has been through two miscarriages of her own. After her second loss, something shifted in her, both personally and professionally. Her body didn't know the difference between losing a pregnancy and carrying one to term. Her hormones dropped just as hard. Her body changed just as completely. She was postpartum in every physical sense, without a baby to bring home.
That experience became a lens she now brings into every room with a client. She started noticing how often a woman's hardest symptoms trace back to a hormonal drop she was never taught to recognize, let alone recover from. After a birth. After a loss. After coming off birth control. After any moment her hormones fell off a cliff. Most women are sent home and told they'll bounce back. Nobody hands them a map for what comes after. Kat has spent years since becoming that map for her clients, because she knows firsthand how much it matters to have one. It's also why postpartum and perimenopause sit at the center of her practice today. Both are seasons where a woman's hormones move fast and hard, and both are seasons where women are told almost nothing about what to expect or how to support their bodies through it. Kat wants that to change.
Minerals are the spark plugs of the body
Every hormone the body makes, the thyroid, the stress response, digestion, even sleep, all of it runs on minerals. The body can't make minerals on its own. They have to come from food, and modern soil is more depleted than it's ever been, so even women eating well can be running low. Add in a pregnancy, a loss, a stretch of poor sleep, chronic stress, or years of dieting, and mineral stores get drained fast. When minerals run low, everything downstream feels it.
What is HTMA, and why Kat builds her work around it
HTMA stands for hair tissue mineral analysis. It's a simple, non-invasive test that uses a small sample of hair to measure mineral levels, things like calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, copper, and zinc, along with the ratios between them.
Here's why that matters. Blood work mostly shows what's circulating in the body right this moment, which can shift day to day. Hair grows slowly and holds onto minerals as it grows, so it reflects a much longer picture, usually the past three to four months. That gives Kat a steady, reliable window into what's actually happening inside a client's cells, not just a single snapshot.
Kat never looks at one mineral on its own. The pattern and the ratios between minerals tell a real story: how the nervous system is coping with stress, how the thyroid and adrenals are holding up, how well someone is actually digesting and absorbing their food. For women who have had "normal" bloodwork for years but still don't feel like themselves, HTMA is often the piece that finally explains why.
How Kat works
Kat reaches for food and basic herbs before she reaches for a supplement bottle, and when a supplement is genuinely the right tool, she keeps the list short and purposeful. Every protocol she builds comes from a client's own labs, own history, and own life. No templates, no cookie cutter plans.
Whether it's postpartum depletion, perimenopause symptoms that seemed to show up out of nowhere, or a gut that has never quite worked right, the goal is always the same: find what's actually going on underneath, and give the body what it's been asking for all along.
Outside the clinic, you'll find Kat climbing, lifting weights, or curled up with a good book. She loves cooking a nourishing meal in her own kitchen, and spending quiet time at home with her husband and their dog. Travel is where she really comes alive, and she jumps at any chance to explore a new place or culture.
Kat looks forward to sitting down with you, hearing your story, and building a nutrition plan that's made just for you.
