therapy & counselling
Therapy is an opportunity to slow down, get curious, and understand what is happening beneath the surface.
When you come to therapy, we become curious together about the patterns, emotions, experiences, and relationships that have shaped you. In addition to focusing on the problem you are experiencing today, counselling can help you understand what may be underneath it—and why you respond to yourself, others, and the world in the ways you do, creating opportunities for meaningful change.
Sometimes we know exactly what we want to change. Other times, we simply know that something doesn't feel right. You may be experiencing anxiety, relationship difficulties, grief, trauma, shame, feeling stuck, or a sense of disconnection from yourself and others. Therapy offers a space to make sense of your experience, work with the different parts of yourself, heal patterns, and make changes for the better in your life.
At Willow House, therapy is collaborative and tailored to the individual, couple or family. Your therapist may gently create space for you to explore and process, ask questions that help you see something differently, or offer frameworks and tools that bring new understanding and transformation.
Therapy can help you:
understand recurring patterns and where they come from
develop a deeper relationship with your emotions and inner world
understand and work with the different parts of yourself
work through trauma, grief, and difficult experiences
navigate anxiety, shame, self-worth, and feeling stuck
improve communication and connection in relationships
strengthen your relationship with your partner
better understand your child's needs and support your relationship as a parent
develop greater self-compassion and understanding
change beliefs and release emotions that feel stuck
create meaningful and lasting change
There is no single way to do therapy. Each person, couple and family brings a different history, nervous system, relationships, strengths and needs. Different people need different things at different times. At Willow House, we believe the therapeutic relationship itself is an important part of healing—a place where you can feel heard, understood, challenged, and supported to find the right path for you.
What can counselling help with?
Therapy can be helpful for many different experiences and seasons of life. You don't need to have a diagnosis or know exactly what is wrong to come to counselling. Sometimes the starting point is a specific concern; other times, it is simply a feeling that something needs to change.
Mental and emotional well-being:
Support for anxiety, stress, overwhelm, shame, low self-worth, difficult emotions, feeling stuck, disconnection from yourself, life transitions, burnout, and patterns that are difficult to change.
Relationships and couples:
Support for communication difficulties, recurring conflict, disconnection, intimacy, trust, navigating differences, and understanding the patterns that develop between partners. Couples’ therapy can offer a space to slow down these patterns, understand what is happening underneath them, and build greater connection and security.
Trauma, grief, and difficult experiences:
A space to process experiences that continue to affect you, including trauma, loss, grief, difficult relationships, major life changes, and experiences that may still feel unresolved.
Self-understanding and personal growth:
Explore your emotions, instincts, beliefs, attachment patterns, and the different parts of yourself. Therapy can help you understand why you respond in certain ways, develop greater self-compassion, and create new ways of relating to yourself and others.
Parenting and family relationships:
Parent coaching can help you better understand your child's emotional and developmental needs, navigate challenging behaviour and family dynamics, and strengthen connection and communication. It can also be a space to explore your own experiences and patterns as a parent.
Meaning, purpose, and the bigger picture:
For those who are drawn to it, therapy can also be a place to explore identity, meaning, purpose, spirituality, consciousness, and the bigger questions that arise throughout our lives.
A whole-person approach
The mind and body are not separate. Emotional experiences, stress, relationships, beliefs, and nervous-system responses can all influence how we experience life in our bodies. Likewise, physical symptoms, illness, pain, hormonal changes, sleep difficulties, and other health concerns can affect our emotional well-being.
At Willow House, counselling can complement the physical and body-based approaches offered by our other practitioners. Whether you are seeking acupuncture, Traditional Chinese medicine, massage, or another form of care, there may also be value in exploring the emotional and psychological dimensions of what you are experiencing.
Every person's experience is different. Your history, relationships, patterns, nervous system, strengths, and needs are unique—and your therapeutic work should be too. We take a thoughtful, individualized approach to help you understand what is happening beneath the surface and discover what may support meaningful change.
